Mikah Berky is an artist who believes in the power of a good story. She was raised in the theater, which has proved marginally more useful than being raised by wolves. The daughter of a mime and an ethicist, she comes by her passion for storytelling and social justice naturally.
Fueled by curiosity and a determination to be a well-fed artist, Mikah earned a B.A. in Theater from Knox College, where she dabbled in most areas of production. She cut her teeth as a freelance scenic artist in the scrappy world of Chicago storefront theater and fabrication shops. There, she became an expert on creating with limited resources and finding creative solutions. While in Chicago, she worked for companies such as Steppenwolf, Lookingglass, Ravenswood Studio, and the Museum of Science and Industry.
Most recently, she spent several years as the Scenic Charge Artist at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where she loved getting to be part of the process for bringing new works to life. She is a firm believer that scenic art is a team effort and finds great satisfaction from projects that combine people’s skills. When she’s not painting wood to look more like wood, Mikah is an avid hiker, traveler, and aerialist.
